My last project I completed for my Masters of Textiles, which was a collaboration with my friend and artist Abby Hermes (@jiiriart on Instagram) and was inspired by Tamora Pierce's seminal Song of the Lioness series, which is about a girl who trains to become a Lady Knight. This was also inspired by real life armor pieces on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and the idea was to create laser etched denim pieces inspired by armor and historical fashion. Other inspirations for this project include designers Vivienne Westwood and Lorica Clothing.
One of my goals for this project was to format art for different types of physical textile products, which I believe I did successfully. This required me to be able to direct my collaborating artist to use the correct techniques to enable this, and then I had to be able to simplify and reformat the art as needed for knitwear and laser application.
